Robert D.B. Spurrell, President and Chief Executive Officer
Robert Spurrell joined Bosley nearly 20 years ago in the marketing department. He served as Marketing Director and Vice President of Sales and Marketing, before gradually getting involved in the operations aspect of the business. As Director of Business Development and Vice President of Operations, he was instrumental in expanding Bosley into over 70 offices in North America and in recruiting many of the Bosley physicians. Most recently as Chief Operating Officer, Rob was involved in the acquisition of Hair Club (USA), Inc. by Bosley's parent company Aderans and oversaw the operations and marketing of the entire Bosley organization. Rob was appointed as Chief Executive Office of Bosley in January 2015.
Rob considers the "Bosley Experience" the cornerstone for excellence in the hair restoration field. To create a standard of excellence in any field, it is critical that our overall patient experience from first exposure to post procedure follow-up be commensurate with the high quality care and service provided to all Bosley patients. With a BA in Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and an MBA from the W.P. Carey School at Arizona State University, Rob is well equipped to lead Bosley's continued excellence at the top of the cosmetic surgery field.
Ken Washenik, M.D., Ph.D., Medical Director
Ken Washenik, M.D., Ph.D., is the Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director of Bosley, the world's largest hair restoration practice and the past Chief Executive Officer of the Aderans Research Institute, a biotechnology firm involved in researching tissue engineered hair follicle neogenesis and cellular based hair restoration.
Dr. Washenik is the immediate past President and a Board member of the North American Hair Research Society and Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Hair Foundation. He is also on the Board of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery and the Cicatricial Alopecia Research Foundation as well as a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the medical honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology and a member of the Dermatological Society of Greater New York and the Los Angeles Metropolitan Dermatological Society.
The former director of the Dermatopharmacology Unit at the New York University School of Medicine, Dr. Washenik continues to serve as a clinical investigator and faculty member in the Department of Dermatology.
Dr. Washenik, a well known national and international lecturer, has presented many seminars on hair growth and loss, dermatopharmacology and dermatology-related issues. His Ph.D. is in Cell Biology and focused on hormone metabolism.
Dr. Washenik has published numerous scientific and medical articles in peer review journals including Endocrinology, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Archives of Dermatology, The Lancet and The New England Journal of Medicine.
Michael J. May-Devey, Vice President of Human Resources
Following a liberal arts education at the University of Wisconsin, Michael J. May worked in the insurance industry, in personnel recruiting and in equipment sales and leasing, eventually making the transition to Human Resources. He has been with Bosley since 1995, assisting with the opening of the Portland office and the creation of the extensive call center in Beverly Hills. He now directs the company's team member programs and was selected to be a featured Employer Representative at the HR.com "Power to the People Series." He was a featured speaker at the NCHRA (Northern California Human Resources Association) annual conference, at the ASHHRA Annual Conference 2007 and at the 2007 Conference Board Annual Benefits Conference (speaking on workforce engagement and Bosley's journey to become a "Great Place to Work." Michael is a member of the SHRM, The Society for Human Resource Management; ASHHRA, the American Society of Healthcare Human Resource Administration and PIHRA, Professionals in Human Resource Administration. Currently Michael sits on the Regional Board of Directors for the Employers Group of California. Michael ensures that Bosley team members are carefully selected for their dedication to patient service and high level of technical and clinical skill.
