Armen Markarian, President and Chief Executive Officer
Armen Markarian joined Bosley in 1991 as Vice President of Operations. He was appointed its Chief Operating Officer in 2001, and in December 2010 was named its President and Chief Executive Officer. With the acquisition of Hair Club (USA), Inc. by Bosley's parent company Aderans, Armen was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Hair Club. Prior to joining Bosley, Armen had more than fifteen years of executive and leadership experience in operations, financial, marketing and administrative management in a variety of health care settings including prominent hospitals and health care centers, clinical laboratories and medical supply firms. Armen has led Bosley to its two most successful and profitable years - and is on a similar pace for 2012. Armen has overseen Bosley's international expansion into Mexico City, and Shanghai. Armen maintains that business development and marketing strategies, operational efficiencies, and judicious financial management strategies should all be at the service of Dr. Bosley's founding principles of high quality patient care, service and results. Armen considers Bosley's primary asset to be its human resources - its physicians, clinical staff, counselors and administrative support teams who ensure patient satisfaction through the daily application of the most comprehensive set of policies and protocols of its kind in the world.
Ken Washenik, M.D., Ph.D., Medical Director - Beverly Hills and New York
Ken Washenik, M.D., Ph.D., is the Medical Director of Bosley and the Executive Vice President of Scientific and Medical Development of the Aderans Research Institute, a biotechnology firm involved in researching tissue engineered hair follicle neogenesis and cellular based hair restoration.
The former director of the Dermatopharmacology Unit at the New York University School of Medicine, Dr. Washenik continues to serve as a clinical investigator and faculty member in the Department of Dermatology.
Dr. Washenik, a well known national and international lecturer, has presented many seminars on dermatopharmacology and dermatology-related issues. His Ph.D. is in Cell Biology and focused on hormone metabolism. He frequently lectures on the effects of hormones on the skin including their effects on hair loss and growth.
Dr. Washenik is the President of the North American Hair Research Society and on the Board of Trustees of the Hair Foundation. He is a Director of the Cicatricial Alopecia Research Foundation and a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the National Alopecia Areata Foundation and the medical honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology and a member of the Dermatological Society of Greater New York and the Los Angeles Metropolitan Dermatological Society.
Dr. Washenik has published numerous scientific and medical articles in peer review journals including Endocrinology, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Archives of Dermatology, The Lancet and The New England Journal of Medicine.
Robert D.B. Spurrell, Chief Operating Officer
Robert Spurrell came to Bosley over fifteen years ago in the marketing department and served as the Marketing Director and Vice President of Sales and Marketing. As Director of Business Development and Vice President of Operations, he was instrumental in expanding Bosley into over 70 offices in North America and recruiting many of the Bosley physicians. Rob currently oversees the operations and marketing of the entire Bosley organization. Rob considers the "Bosley Experience" the cornerstone for excellence in the hair restoration field. To create a standard of excellence in any field, it is critical that our overall patient experience from first exposure to post procedure follow-up be commensurate with the high quality care and service provided to all Bosley patients. With a BA in Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and an MBA from the W.P. Carey School at Arizona State University, Rob is well equipped to lead Bosley's continued excellence at the top of the cosmetic surgery field.
Michael J. May, Director of Human Resources
Following a liberal arts education at the University of Wisconsin, Michael J. May worked in the insurance industry, in personnel recruiting and in equipment sales and leasing, eventually making the transition to Human Resources. He has been with Bosley since 1995, assisting with the opening of the Portland office and the creation of the extensive call center in Beverly Hills. He now directs the company's team member programs and was selected to be a featured Employer Representative at the HR.com "Power to the People Series." He was a featured speaker at the NCHRA (Northern California Human Resources Association) annual conference, at the ASHHRA Annual Conference 2007 and at the 2007 Conference Board Annual Benefits Conference (speaking on workforce engagement and Bosley's journey to become a "Great Place to Work." Michael is a member of the SHRM, The Society for Human Resource Management; ASHHRA, the American Society of Healthcare Human Resource Administration and PIHRA, Professionals in Human Resource Administration. Currently Michael sits on the Regional Board of Directors for the Employers Group of California. Michael ensures that Bosley team members are carefully selected for their dedication to patient service and high level of technical and clinical skill.
Mark Davenport, IT Director
Mark Davenport oversees all aspects of information strategy and security. He comes to Bosley with more than 25 years experience in the high-tech and information technology sector with a wide ranging experience base. The early part of his career was spent as a software developer. Subsequent career highlights have included positions as Director of Software Engineering and Vice President of Development at Dayna Communications in Salt Lake City; Director of Engineering and Business Development for Wireless LAN Operations at Intel in Salt Lake City; Program Director at MDR Corporation, and recently as Interim Chief Information Officer and Director of IT Project Management Office at Spirent Communications, a California-based multi-national telecommunications company. Mark has a BS degree in Mathematics from the University of Utah.
