Bosley Welcomes MHR Physicians!
Effective June 1, 2010, Bosley and Medical Hair Restoration, the two most experienced and trusted names in hair restoration, have merged under the Bosley name.
In merging with Medical Hair Restoration, Bosley will continue the operation of MHR surgical offices in Cleveland, Columbus, Denver, Minneapolis, Orlando and San Diego. Bosley is also happy to announce that several MHR physicians will continue practicing hair restoration with Bosley. Bosley is known to be very selective about its physicians. Of the many doctors that contact us annually regarding affiliation, only a few are offered positions to join the Bosley hair restoration team. Our Medical Director selects and trains physicians based on their abilities to emulate Dr. Bosley's exacting skills and artistic capabilities, and we are proud to have these fine physicians affiliated with Bosley.

Matt Leavitt, D.O., Executive Medical Advisor
The winner of the 2002 International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) Golden Follicle Award, Dr. Matt Leavitt has had a storied rise to international prominence in hair restoration as founder and medical director of Medical Hair Restoration (MHR), now merged with Bosley. He is a board-certified dermatologist and Diplomate of the ABHRS.
An acknowledged authority on hair transplantation, Dr. Leavitt has developed and taught new techniques for hair replacement that accentuate a natural appearance. Surgeons from both the US and overseas have traveled to Orlando to study with Dr. Leavitt.
He is one of the founders of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery, where he first served as its first vice president.
As a clinical advisor for Merck, Dr. Leavitt was among the original physicians selected to study the effects of the hair-growth drug Propecia on hair transplantation. He has been on the advisory boards of Pharmacia (now Johnson & Johnson), manufacturers of Rogaine as well as been a member of Procyte’s Board of Directors (now Photomedex) and the Clinical Advisory Boards for Bradley Pharmaceuticals and Allergan.
In 2002 he was elected to the Board of Governors of the ISHRS, a position he held until 2008. He has lectured both nationally and internationally on hair loss in men and women, and was a founding member of the Hair Foundation and was selected as its first Secretary. Currently, Dr. Leavitt is the President of the Hair Foundation.
Dr. Leavitt is a founder and sixteen-time Chairman of the Live Surgery Workshop which is designed to provide a comprehensive surgical overview of all aspects of hair transplantation as well as providing a forum for the development of research case studies. Additionally, he is the Chairman of the Live Workshop Committee for the ISHRS and is a member of several committees, i.e. CME, Residency Programs, etc. He also designed and chairs an ISHRS approved Fellowship Training program for hair restoration physicians.
Dr. Leavitt has authored numerous articles for dermatology, hair and cosmetic journals and has served three times as editor for special hair loss editions of the International Journal of Cosmetic surgery.
A graduate of University of Michigan and Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Leavitt performed his residency at Ohio University Grandview Medical Center.
David Josephitis, D.O.
Soon after graduating from high school, David Josephitis found his calling. Even at such a young age, he knew that he wanted to become a surgeon. He felt that practicing medicine was all about repairing something that had gone wrong, and he loved the idea of being able to restore a person's wellbeing. As he pursued his dream, he realized that in order to become a great surgeon, he would first need to be an outstanding physician. "I chose to study Internal Medicine in order to become a well-rounded doctor," said Dr. Josephitis, "I felt that a broad medical knowledge, in addition to my surgical specialty training, would offer the best of both worlds to my future patients."
After completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois, Dr. Josephitis spent a year at the University of Amsterdam focusing on biology and foreign studies. He earned his medical degree from the esteemed Nova Southeastern University. Then, immediately following his Internal Medicine training at the distinguished St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, he began his specialty training in Hair Transplantation Surgery. Working under the direction of Dr. Matt Leavitt, the Founder and Medical Director of Medical Hair Restoration, Dr. Josephitis completed the prestigious MHR fellowship in Hair Transplantation Surgery.
Dr. Josephitis was drawn to hair transplantation because it is one of the few specialties that require both an analytical and aesthetic mind. "I have always enjoyed creating," he said, "hair transplant surgery gives me the unbelievable opportunity to actually recreate a person's physical appearance and, at the same time, help improve their overall sense of confidence and self esteem."
The basis from which Dr. Josephitis draws his medical philosophy has always been to be a great surgeon in addition to an outstanding physician. "I believe there is a benefit in a hair transplant surgeon having both a medical and surgical background," he stated, "As a surgeon, I can give the patient the most natural looking transplant the industry has to offer. As a physician, I get to enjoy great relationships with my patients as their hair loss specialist. And, with my background in Internal Medicine, I can assure the patient that he or she is an appropriate surgical candidate." For Dr. Josephitis, the most satisfying aspect of being a hair transplant surgeon is relieving his patients of the burden they feel when losing their hair. "Hair loss is a serious and troubling issue that many deal with on a daily basis," he said, "I enjoy taking this strain and concern out of a person's life and making their hair a non-issue
“In order to be good at anything you need to be passionate about it, and that is what motivates me. Technically I transplant hair, but when I see the positive emotional changes in my patients from their hair, I feel as though I have transplanted youth, confidence, and virility.”
Dr. Josephitis is a Diplomate of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery and is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Gabriel Krenitsky, M.D.
In 2002, Dr. Krenitsky began his career with Medical Hair Restoration (now Bosley) as a surgical fellow in their Manhattan office, eventually becoming Medical Hair Restoration’s Medical Director. Upon completion of the rigorous MHR Hair Transplantation Fellowship, Dr. Krenitsky had the opportunity to return to his home state of Ohio.
Since that time, Dr. Krenitsky has built his practice in Ohio into one of the best in the industry. The consistent, excellent results that Dr. Krenitsky and his dedicated staff produce have are widely recognized by the industry. “It’s very gratifying to know that thousands of people see my work every day, and that it inspires them to take control of their hair loss and make a positive change in their life.”
Dr. Krenitsky believes that the hair restoration experience should be as much of a “Work of Art” as the results of the procedure. “Minimal wait times, comfortable procedures and giving patients my personal cell phone number are some of the small things we do to demonstrate that we care about the person as much as the procedure.”
Dr. Krenitsky is among only a handful of physicians in the country who are recognized as a Diplomate of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery. He currently sits on the board of directors of that organization. He has trained and lectured physicians from around the world. Dr. Krenitsky has performed thousands of surgeries on patients of all ages and races. Whether he is performing a hair transplant procedure for a 13-year-old trauma victim or an 85-year-old who just did not want to be bald anymore, Dr. Krenitsky’s experience allows him to use hair transplantation as a way to treat a vast array of traumatic and cosmetic issues. In addition to hair restoration, Dr Krenitsky is an advanced Botox injector, and is also skilled in facial fillers and other cosmetic treatments.
Melvin Mayer, M.D.
Dr. Mayer first became interested in hair restoration during his 20th high school reunion when he was voted baldest in the class. This catalyst inspired him to learn more about hair restoration. He studied every book and article he could find, evaluating hair transplant physicians, their surgical techniques and the results they achieved. He used this information both personally and professionally. Dr. Mayer had the procedure himself and then decided to become a hair transplant surgeon. The experience provided him with a keen sense of what patients go through as they make decisions about their own hair loss.
In 1992, Dr. Mayer joined Medical Hair Restoration (MHR) as a surgeon. "I joined MHR and later Bosley due to the high quality of work being done by those practices." he said.
Dr. Mayer's accomplished career is due to his philosophy for successful hair restoration surgery: honesty, top quality work, integrity, empathy and understanding. Having undergone the procedure himself, Dr. Mayer has a greater sensitivity toward his patients. "I encourage my patients to start early in their process of hair restoration. By waiting too long myself, I was almost bald before I turned to hair restoration."
"One of my most memorable and satisfying experiences was working with a patient who first had hair restoration surgery when he was 18 years old," Dr. Mayer recalled. "He had large plugs placed in his temporal region by another surgeon. By the time he came to me 12 years later, he had balded away from the plugs. The situation had him extremely depressed. He hadn't been out in public without a hat in 10 years. I restored the hair and connected or removed the previous plugs, which resulted in a complete transformation of his self-esteem."
Dr. Mayer is a Diplomate of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery.
Anthony Mollura, M.D.
You could say that Dr. Anthony Mollura has an artist's eyes and a surgeon's hands. Perhaps this is because he was at the epicenter of the artistic world while studying medicine in Italy at the University of Rome. "What better place to study and appreciate art than Rome and Florence," stated Dr. Mollura, "The experience helped me develop a good artistic eye." His appreciation for balance, composition and aesthetics are an integral part of what makes him such a talented hair transplant surgeon.
Dr. Mollura attended the esteemed Wagner College in New York where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Bacteriology. Following graduation from medical school at the University of Rome, Dr. Mollura spent one year in Beijing working in the impoverished areas of China with the United Nations World Food Program. He returned to the United States to complete his internship at Coney Island Hospital in New York, followed by his residency program affiliated with the School of Medicine at the State University of New York. He then set up a family practice while also working in the emergency department of Franklin Hospital Medical Center in Nassau County, New York.
Although Dr. Mollura had a successful family practice and enjoyed the intensity of the hospital ER, something was still missing. It was then that he met a colleague who practiced hair restoration surgery. "I was instantly attracted not only to the surgical aspect of the procedure but also the artistic aspect," said Dr. Mollura, "It combined what I was most interested in - Medicine, Surgery and Art." Realizing he was at a crossroads, he made the bold decision to close his family practice, leave the hospital and become a hair transplant surgeon. "This was a deciding point in my life. I had to make a choice that would affect not only my life but also my family's," he reflected. "but knowing how gratifying it would be to see the impact you could make in someone's life by restoring their hair, along with their confidence and self esteem, made the decision an easy one." After performing nearly 3,500 hair transplant procedures, he knows he has found his true calling.
For Dr. Mollura, the most rewarding aspect of being a hair transplant surgeon is seeing the difference he makes in his patient's lives. "It's extremely rewarding when a patient conveys to me how grateful they are for changing their lives," smiled Dr. Mollura, "People who never left their home without a baseball cap suddenly take their hats off and see the sunshine." Then with a laugh he adds, "I've saved lives in the emergency room without even a thank you from the patient. I restore someone's hairline and the next thing I know, they're asking me to be the Godfather to their first born."
Tania Pauls, M.D.
Dr. Tania Pauls' interest in hair restoration was sparked after a family member had the procedure. "I was amazed at how natural it looked and how painless the procedure was for him," she said. "In contrast to many other fields of medicine, this was a chance to help people feel much better about themselves."
After beginning her medical career in Internal Medicine, Dr. Pauls decided to change her career path. She applied, was accepted and completed the comprehensive, year long Hair Transplantation Fellowship with Medical Hair Restoration. While participating in scientific medical research in 1993 as a medical student, Dr. Pauls trained in micro-surgical techniques. During her fellowship with MHR, she trained with some of the practices most experienced hair transplant surgeons, including Founder and Medical Director, Dr. Matt Leavitt and Dr. Mel Mayer. She finds that being detail-oriented is important to hair transplantation because of the particular curl, angles and directions to consider for the thousands of hairs transplanted during a procedure.
"A person's number one concern is if the result will look natural," said Dr. Pauls. "With the quality of modern hair transplantation techniques, I can assure my patients that this surgery produces a completely natural result."
She has found that in addition to her attention to detail and her training, it is important to be sensitive to the patient's goals and objectives because the results are permanent. "I talk to patients about what they can expect before and after the surgery," she said. "My staff and I make sure the patients are comfortable before, during and after the procedure."
Having performed thousands of follicular unit hair transplant procedures, Dr. Pauls has found her niche in this specialty. "Follow-up visits with patients are very satisfying," she said. "I enjoy seeing how happy they are with their results. In many cases, patients have changed their entire lifestyle after their transplant, exercising more, eating healthier and taking better care of themselves in general. It's very rewarding to play a part in that."
Dr. Pauls is a Diplomate of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery.
