Help! I’m Losing My Hair. What Should I Do?

Denial. This can’t be happening to me. I’ve always had a thick head of hair and so have all the men on my mom’s side of the family. There’s no way I can be going bald. Anger. Why is this happening to me? My brother still has all of his hair. Why am I the one who’s going bald?

Bargaining. Maybe my hair loss will stop on its own. Maybe this is just temporary, and it’ll grow back stronger than ever.

Depression. I’m going to be one of those sad old bald guys for the rest of my life, aren’t I?

Acceptance. OK. So, I’m starting to lose my hair. What should I do?

Few things are as scary as realizing that you’re starting to lose your hair. Whether it’s finding a few extra strands in the sink after combing, or noticing that your hairline is higher than it used to be, the realization that you might be going bald is a tough one to swallow. Thankfully, these days you don’t have to be resigned to hair loss. In fact, you’ve got a lot of different options when it comes to restoring your hair.

When you’ve finally made it through the five stages of grief and are ready to accept the fact that you’re losing hair, what do you do next?

First, take a deep breath.

Second, don’t worry. Bosley has you covered.

Hair Loss Treatment Options.

In general, there are two main types of hair loss treatments:

  • Non-surgical treatments that are aimed at helping you keep the hair you have and helping you grow thicker, fuller, healthier hair. These are generally recommended for men with early-stage hair loss or those that have existing hair that they are trying to retain.
  • Hair transplantation procedures that can help you grow hair where you don’t have it anymore. This is typically the best option for men with more advanced hair loss.

Early-Stage Hair Loss Options

When it comes to hair loss, the earlier you start addressing it the better. If you’re just starting to notice your hair loss, here are a few of the options that you can consider.

BosleyRx®

Prescription medications such as Finasteride (Propecia) and Minoxidil (Rogaine) are common ways to treat early stage hair loss. Now Bosley offers these FDA-approved treatment options (as well as doctor-formulated topicals) with no doctor’s office visit through BosleyRx®.

Bosley Revitalizer (Low-Level Laser Therapy)

Low-Level Laser Therapy is a non-surgical, clinical-strength technology that works by stimulating cellular activity and blood circulation to help stop hair loss and regrow hair.  The Bosley Revitalizer is an at-home treatment option that uses laser diodes inside an inconspicuous sports cap to promote hair growth.

Advanced Hair Loss Options

If your hair loss is more advanced, you may need to explore other options. In that case, the solution for growing hair where you don’t have it anymore is hair transplantation. A hair transplant is a procedure that involves transplanting hair follicles from one area of the head (called the “donor area”) to the thinning area (the “recipient area”).

There are two common hair transplant options, depending on the size and shape of the donor area and the demand for grafts.

Follicular Unit Excision (FUE)

An FUE is a minimally invasive procedure that involves removing follicular unit grafts (1-4 hair follicles) from the patient’s donor area and then transplanting them into the recipient area. There are no stiches required and no linear scar.

Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT)

With an FUT, all of the grafts are removed as a group from the back of the head from which the donor hair follicles are extracted. The follicles are then individually transplanted to the recipient areas.
