What Causes Thinning Eyebrows?
Eyebrows play a very important role in how you look. Not only do they frame your facial features, but they’re also a key component in how you convey emotion and express yourself. If you’re starting to notice your eyebrows thinning, it’s natural to wonder what’s causing it and whether there’s anything you can do to fix it.
Causes of Eyebrow Thinning
The first step toward remedying your sparse eyebrows is to determine the cause of the hair loss. Once you’ve identified the cause, you can start working to find the right treatment option.
Over-Plucking or Waxing
The most common cause of thinning eyebrows is over-plucking or constant waxing. Over-plucking can result in temporary and, eventually, permanent hair loss (known as traction alopecia) as hair falls out on its own.
Poor Diet
A vitamin overdose or the wrong diet can also result in temporary eyebrow hair loss. For example, a lack of or excess amount of iodine in your diet can lead to thin eyebrows. Fortunately, a balanced diet rich in nutrients and minerals can promote hair health and even regrowth of lost eyebrow hair.
Hypothyroidism
Another cause of thin eyebrows is more serious in nature. If you suffer from an over- or under-producing thyroid, known respectively as hyper- or hypothyroidism, you can experience eyebrow hair loss and thinning. Because of this possibility, it’s always best to first consult your physician about your eyebrow hair loss. The good news is that once your thyroid reverts to producing normal levels of hormones with the help of medication, hair loss should slow down and halt, and hair regrowth should occur as your body begins to repair itself.
Other causes
Other causes of thinning eyebrows include scars and genetics but, luckily for most people, these conditions are usually treatable.
Solutions to Eyebrow Thinning
Eyebrow restoration is an excellent way to replace eyebrows or touch up small areas of hair loss. We perform the same technique used in other Bosley procedures; in this case, a small amount of hair from your head is transplanted to your eyebrow region. The procedure is performed by a qualified Bosley physician and takes only 2-3 hours.
Eyebrow restoration is a highly artistic procedure in which a brow is individually designed based on your facial type, your features and the results you’re looking for. Unlike tattooing, dyeing or other attempts to enhance the brow, eyebrow restoration uses state-of-the-art follicular unit transplantation to create a truly natural look — because it uses your own natural hair. With the transplanted hairs blending right in with the existing brow, the procedure itself is virtually undetectable.
Because of the incredible results and reasonable cost, brow restoration is increasingly in high demand. You can schedule a free, private, no-obligation consultation with a counselor at one of Bosley’s 70 locations in the U.S. To learn more about your hair restoration options, download Bosley’s FREE guidebook, The Complete Book on Hair Restoration, to see how great your hair can look.
